These committees are established in the by-laws of HFH of Benzie County to conduct designated operations of the Board. As such, they report their work to the Board, receive direction and guidance from the Board, and seek its approval of proposed actions. Since HFHBC has no paid staff, members of these committees carry out the “nuts and bolts” operations of the affiliate. Some meet regularly, and others on an as needed basis. VOLUNTEER FOR COMMITTEES
Volunteers are needed to fill positions on Habitat’s committees. These teams of volunteers provide the foundation of Habitat’s work in Benzie County. Choose from the list below based on your interests and skills.
CONSTRUCTION SITE SELECTION COMMITTEE
Chair: Brad Pierce
When building sites become known, evaluates the site for suitability for building and utilities. Works on the construction of the home from the ground up provides the carpentry, general construction work, interior trim, roofing, siding, snack delivery to the site, tiling, window installation, and more.
FAMILY SELECTION AND SUPPORT COMMITTEE
Chair: Mary Ellen Miller
The Family Selection/ Support Committee is responsible for selecting families in need of housing who meet need and income requirements as described in our policies, and to support them through the Habitat building process. We need volunteers on our committee to help seek out potential families through various outreach efforts, to determine qualifying families according to Habitat standards, and to serve as “advocates” helping selected partners successfully obtain a home and become responsible home owners.
RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT AND PUBLIC RELATIONS
Chair: Norma Corwin
Resource Development and Public Relations Committee Plans fundraising events such as our annual Dan Straubel Memoiral Golf Outing, which is held in September, and our Festival of Trees held annually on Thanksgiving weekend. Provides volunteer support to community organization that hold fundraisers that benefit HFH of Benzie County. Prepares annual Fund Development Plan and writes articles and press releases for home building events and fund raising events. Committee meeting frequency varies.
CHURCH AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Meets monthly and includes representative from the community and area churches, and chairs of HFHBC BOD and committees. Discusses ways to carry out the activities of the affiliate and reports back to the churches and/or organizations.
RESTORE OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE
Chair: Bill Dundon
Primary Duties: Responsible for the operation of the Affiliate’s Restore including oversight on all leases and equipment, Restore management and contract labor, marketing and promotion, insurances, licenses, volunteers, product donations, pick ups and deliveries. The Committee is also responsible for filing all necessary reports as required by HFHI, HFHM and governmental agencies and maintain all Restore operations current with the necessary safety and compliance requirements.
