VOLUNTEER FOR COMMITTEES

Volunteers are needed to fill positions on Habitat’s committees. These teams of volunteers provide the foundation of Habitat’s work in Benzie County. Choose from the list below based on your interests and skills.

CONSTRUCTION SITE SELECTION COMMITTEE

This committee evaluates the suitability of sites for buildings and utilities, as well as planning and managing the construction of the homes.  Some examples are carpentry, general construction work, interior trim, roofing, siding, window installation, snack delivery to the site,  and site clean-up.

FAMILY SELECTION AND SUPPORT COMMITTEE

This committee’s job is to find Benzie county families who want to partner with Habitat and then to support them as they help build and purchase their own home. This begins with a qualification process to ensure applicants meet all HFH criteria, including need for safe and affordable housing, ability to pay for a Habitat home, and willingness to invest “sweat equity” in construction of the home. After a family is accepted, a committee “advocate” educates and helps the partners to become responsible and successful homeowners.

RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT AND PUBLIC RELATIONS

The Resource Development and Public Relations Committee plans fundraising events, such as our annual Dan Straubel Memorial Golf Outing, which is held in September, and our Festival of Trees held annually on Thanksgiving weekend. Volunteers provide support to community organizations and local churches that hold fundraisers that benefit HFH of Benzie County. This committee also prepares the annual Fund Development Plan and writes articles and press releases for home building events and fund raising events. Committee meeting frequency varies.

RESTORE OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE

This committee is responsible for the operation of our Affiliate’s Restore including oversight on all leases and equipment, ReStore management and contract labor, marketing and promotion, insurances, licenses, volunteers, product donations, pick ups and deliveries. The Committee is also responsible for filing all necessary reports as required by HFHI, HFHM and governmental agencies and maintain all Restore operations current with the necessary safety and compliance requirements.
