DATE: July 11, 2025 Senator Bumstead Visits Benzie Habitat Build Site On July 7, Michigan Senator Jon Bumstead met with Benzie Habitat directors and visited the three homes currently under construction in Thompsonville. The Senator stated that he was impressed with the innovative Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) foundations and overall build quality. The Senator also visited a completed home and met with the owner Kayla Russell. Kayla informed the Senator that she is very pleased with her home and its energy efficiency features. DATE: June 28, 2025   Honor Bank Employees Help Build Affordable Housing in Thompsonville Honor Bank employees recently helped Habitat for Humanity of Benzie County build affordable homes in the Village of Thompsonville.  Three homes are currently under construction.  Each single story, 1,170 square foot home features three bedrooms, bathroom, laundry/utility room, kitchen and dining area, high efficiency ventilation system, hazard resistant building materials and are Energy Star Certified.  Land for this much-needed affordable housing project was purchased from the Benzie County Land Bank Authority.  To date, the affiliate has constructed 11 homes in the village. Date: June 8, 2024 Benzie Habitat Receives $100,000 Grant for Affordable Housing Habitat for Humanity of Benzie County has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the Habitat for Humanity of Michigan Advancing Affordable Housing Program (AAHP). The AAHP funds are intended to be used to construct new homes, rehabilitate existing homes, provide down payment assistance or cover actual construction/rehabilitation costs over the sales price/appraised value. For many people across the country, access to affordable housing remains out of reach.
